bio

Spencer Raymond started playing the drums when he was 12 years old. After playing his first club gig at Sal D's night club in Bridgeport, CT @ age 15 he was sold on drumming and music for life.

He was fascinated with the who and the police and always wanted to play like Stewart Copeland and Keith Moon. His brother was also a great influence on his musical tastes - taking him to countless shows. Santana, The Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, pretty much anything that came somewhat close to where he grew up in Fairfield, CT, and was accessible by car, train or boat.

Spencer attended and Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA graduating in the spring of '94. After graduation he stayed in Massachussets for another year and a half playing with a band called dog lips based in Amherst. They eventually took their outfit out west where he went on to play with many other bands including his main band boomshanka which went on to tour Nationally and came to and end in 2003 after playing 200+ live shows.

He has played in countless bands and recorded over a 100+ tunes with bands in many different genres, sharing the stage with some of his influences including the Radiators, Les Claypool's Flying Frog Brigade, the Derek Trucks Band, Robert Walter's 20th Congress, Merl Saunders and two epic nights at the 2002 Jazz Fest with the Rebirth Brass Band in New Orleans with special guests Skerik and Les Claypool.

By 2003 Spencer found himself broke, broken down, moving from couch to couch and getting strange looks from his dog. He… (ok, I. Does anyone not actually write their own bio's?, sick of this 3rd person stuff). I retreated to Miami where I had free lodging and started working different production jobs on commercials, short films and music video's. After about 6 months, I gathered my belongings and moved to Long Island, NY and took a job with a television network, worked my way up to director of programming and stayed with the network for about 4 and a 1/2 years. During this time I was also focusing on music production, drum sampling and working with Pro Tools, Reason, Logic, my MPC 2500 and other various music software and hardware.

Fast forward to today and I'll soon be relocating back out West to concentrate on drumming, private lessons, music production and licensing music for television and film along with other projects. If you would like to contact me, please check out my contact (link) page for more information.
